Dr. Dean Sexsmith is a General Dentist at Westlake Dental in Lloydminster
Dr. Dean Sexsmith has been practising dentistry for more than 30 years. A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, he began his career serving in the Canadian Armed Forces before transitioning to private practice. In 2004, he founded Westlake Dental in Lloydminster on the Alberta side, becoming the first clinic in the city to fully adopt digital charting and digital radiography. In 2014, he expanded to a new clinic on the Saskatchewan side, adding Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) to further enhance diagnostic capabilities.
In 2019, Dr. Sexsmith became one of the few dentists in Canada to earn a Master of Science in Laser Dentistry, placing second in a cohort of 30 dentists representing 12 countries. His thesis, “The Conservative Use of Erbium Lasers for the Treatment of Osteonecrosis,” contributed to emerging research on advanced laser applications. He is an alumni member of the World Academy for Laser Education and Research in Dentistry and has lectured internationally on dental laser technology, including in Saskatchewan, Germany, and Portugal.
Dr. Sexsmith has been placing and restoring dental implants for more than 20 years. He also uses CAD/CAM technology to fabricate same-day crowns, reducing the need for temporary restorations and lengthy wait times.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Sexsmith enjoys restoring classic muscle cars. He has earned the Street Rod Technologies Certificate from Lakeland College and completed the AMG Driving Academy Performance Course at Mission Raceway.
